Shearmur Family Album Part 3

Now to some photos with a photographer name and a  narrow date range. Place London in 1862-1864

These were taken by M J de Mouxy and details about him can be found at http://www.photolondon.org.uk/pages/details.asp?pid=2149

Perhaps these are family, perhaps not. Were these Georgina's Mum on the left and an older sister on the right or maybe an aunt? Were these for Georgina to take with her when she embarked on her trip to the other side of the world?
I just love these photos and feel privileged to have had access to them. I hope that some other member of the extended family has them too so we can compare notes.

  1. It was a pleasure to read your blog. In particular to find that you have two pictures taken by John Marie de Mouxy. He was from France. I have got copies of some letters he wrote when he was working as a photographer in London. They were found in my parents' house in France. My father and I are trying to find out as much as possible about him and trying to find as many as possible of his works. We might try to write his story based on the information we find...

Would it be possible to get a high quality digital copy of the two pictures you have (my father's sight is unfortunately not so good) and of the back of the pictures, where I imagine the photographer's name and address are written (probably 125, Regent street?). He was in Strand street in London, but moved to 125, Regent street in 1862 (between March and July). He was very proud of his new house and describes Regent street as the prettiest, most aristocratic and best-attended street in all of London. His old house in 19, Strand street was demolished when the Charing Cross railway station was constructed in 1862.
